Opening Statement of Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. on the Conference dedicated to the Day of diplomatic workers of TurkmenistanFeb 18, 2019
Honorable diplomats, members of the Government of Turkmenistan, dear colleagues and friends,
On behalf of the United Nations Development Programme, it is my great pleasure to greet and congratulate you and the people of Turkmenistan on the Day of diplomatic workers. This day celebrates the contribution of the Turkmen diplomats into promotion of the peace and stability in the region and around the world under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, His Excellency, Mr. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Turkmen diplomats streamline the positive neutrality policy of Turkmenistan through many initiatives in the spheres of politics, economics, energy, transport, water, sports, culture and others. They play a role of the cultural ambassadors and bind Turkmen diasporas abroad together communicating the ideas of patriotism and love towards multiculturalism.
Thanks to the work of the Turkmen diplomats, the country has strategically positioned itself in the areas of peace, energy, transport, environment and sustainable development. At the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly has adopted several strategic resolutions, including safe transit of energy resources, and transportation corridors and made a number of other important decisions for achieving Agenda 2030.
In 2018, I had an honor to join diplomatic community here in Turkmenistan. It gives me a great pleasure to witness Turkmen diplomats building up cooperation with international organizations as part of the Concept of foreign policy of Turkmenistan for 2017-2023, spearheaded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
Turkmen diplomats are on the forefront of strengthening cooperation with UNDP.
We are very proud, that supported by the diplomatic community of Turkmenistan, UNDP has been established as one of the primary partners of Turkmenistan in implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals. Our wide mandate allows providing platforms for discussions and joint work in various spheres, that we have promoted with pleasure
In 2016, UNDP and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have coordinated all national agencies and ministries to successfully nationalize SDGs and start implementation of the SDGs in Turkmenistan.
It is widely acknowledged that implementation of the SDGs requires multi billion investments around the globe. Thus, UNDP, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan joined forces to launch dialogue with respective stakeholders, such as international financial institutions and multinational corporations, about their responsibility and contribution towards fostering sustainable development in Turkmenistan and around the globe.
We also work with the private sector of Turkmenistan to raise awareness on the topics of SDGs and encourage their contributions to its implementation.
UNDP actively engages Turkmen diplomats and representatives of the Government in international dialogues and forums abroad on the topics of international relations, gender equality, human rights, water, energy, transport and others. In turn, the Government of Turkmenistan invites UNDP’s contribution to the international forums held inside the country, which we join with appreciation and pleasure. We are proud to be part of the dialogues on those issues, where UNDP offers its expertise and knowledge.
In December 2018, I had the pleasure to join the launch of the Training Centre for priority directions of Turkmen diplomacy on water, energy and transport, based in the Institute of foreign relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan. I have no doubt that the center will further strengthen the efforts of the Turkmen diplomats to bringing peace and stability in the region.
In this festive Day of diplomatic workers of Turkmenistan, let me also congratulate and acknowledge the important contribution played by Diplomatic Corps, accredited in Turkmenistan in fostering cooperation between Turkmenistan and their respective nations. It is important, that today is the celebration of our joint efforts in making good diplomacy and bringing various nations closer together.
The year of 2019 has been declared as “Turkmenistan – the Home of Prosperity”. “Prosperity” is “development”, and we at UNDP serve the people around the world to reach development in all spheres. We are full of unique ideas that will foster the sustainable development of Turkmenistan and hope to see more opportunities for cooperation with the Government and the diplomats of Turkmenistan.
Let me extend my best wishes for the prosperity of the nation and wellbeing of the people of Turkmenistan.
Thank you for your attention and congratulations once again!
