UNDP conducted next stage training on engineering survey of buildings

Ashgabat, 19 February 2021: Within the framework of a joint project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Institute of Seismology and Atmospheric Physics of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan "Strengthening national capacity for Seismic Risk Assessment, Prevention and Response to Potential Earthquakes", two-week online training for the 2nd group of specialists Turkmenistan was held from 8th to 19th February to train how to operate modern equipment of German manufacture on conducting engineering survey of buildings and the processing of measurement results.

Supervised by experienced international trainers S. A. Tyagunov (Germany) and S. Zh. Orunbayev (Kyrgyzstan), the training was conducted by Turkmen specialists, who successfully completed the first stage of the training. This training format has demonstrated its effectiveness as it was initially expected. On the one hand, the national trainers, who conducted the training have further consolidated their previously acquired knowledge and skills, and on the other hand, the possibility of direct communication between the participants and trainers has contributed to a better understanding of the training content.

The participants of the 2nd round of training included representatives of the Main Directorate of Civil Defense and Rescue Operations of the Ministry of Defense of Turkmenistan, The State Design Association "Turkmendowlettaslama" and Research Institute of Aseismic Construction of the Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan.

Similar to the first stage, the programme of the current training included theoretical and practical content. The participants independently made measurements in pilot building and processed the obtained results. On the final day of the training, a testing has been conducted by international trainers, after which participants were provided with relevant certificates.
