June 26, 2020

Ashgabat, 26 June 2020: The UN Development Programme jointly with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Turkmenistan and the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan held a two-day seminar for young people in Ashgabat on digital literacy, job search and employment.

During the seminar, participants got acquainted with the basics of using computer programs and Internet, methods of  onlinejob search, using the employment portal of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as the website of the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan.

“At present, it’s useful for young people to know what sources to use when looking for work, how to introduce themselves to a potential employer, how to write a resume so that you are invited for an interview, and how to successfully pass an interview for a job. We have developed lessons that would help young people in their job search.  Our first product is available on UNDP website and on the website of the local online news agency www.orient.tm”, noted Ogulnur Hommaliyeva, UNDP youth project consultant.

After the seminar, a digital literacy contest for young people is planned. According to the results of the competition, it is planned to issue certificates and prizes to participants, as well as the opportunity to visit and meet in person with the management of UNDP, the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Turkmenistan.

Workshops on digital work skills started on June 8 in Mary and continued in  Tejen (June 11-12), Dashoguz (June 15-16), Turkmenabat (June 18-19).

These workshops were organized as part of a joint project between UNDP and the Government of Japan, “Strengthening Community Resilience and Regional Cooperation to Prevent Violent Extremism in Central Asia”.
