UNDP organizes a webinar on tourism statistics in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, 24 July 2020: Today with  support of the United Nations Development Programme, a webinar was held on the compilation of a satellite tourism account. The event has been conducted under the joint project of UNDP and the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan. Representatives of State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, Central Bank of Turkmenistan, State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, State Migration Service of Turkmenistan, “Türkmenhowaýollary” (Turkmenistan Airlines) took part in the discussions.

The aim of today's round table was to present international standards for compiling a tourism satellite account according to the System of National Accounts 2008 (SNA2008) and recommendations for its compilation in Turkmenistan. To measure the contribution of tourism to a country's economic production, as well as progress in tourism development within the country itself, tourism direct gross domestic product is used bythe Tourism Satellite Accounts (TTA) conceptual framework. This conceptual framework has been adopted by the UN Statistical Commission.

An international expert from Austria, Mr. Peter Hackl, Candidate in Physics and Mathematics, Associate Professor in Statistics with over 40 years of experience in statistics, presented an overview of international standards for compiling a tourism satellite account according to the SNA 2008 and recommendations for its preparation in Turkmenistan.
