UNDP and partners discussed building a database to achieve the SDGs

Ashgabat, 17 November 2020: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and 10 representatives of ministries and departments of Turkmenistan took part in the webinar of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) “Building robust data ecosystems for achieving the SDGs”. The aim of the workshop is to discuss the importance of creating national platforms and, database and metadata on the SDGs.

Specialists from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan, the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Statistics reviewed examples and best practices of countries that have developed and implemented national platforms.

During the meeting, experience of Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Kyrgyzstan was presented, the governments of which have developed and implemented national platforms for building data monitoring and evaluation systems that are available to a wide range of users - government agencies, private sector, public organizations. The presentations highlighted the importance of the functioning of national platforms and a multi-stakeholder approach, which includes the interconnection of national platforms with other platforms, their flexibility, accessibility and the possibility of using all SDG data.

The meeting was held within the framework of the joint project of UNDP and the Ministry of Finance and Economy of Turkmenistan "Partnering for SDG acceleration", which brings together joint efforts and constructive relations of the parties in implementation of the global Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 and the relevant Sustainable Development Goals adopted by Turkmenistan at the government level in September 2016.
