UNDP Signs MoU with KSB Company to Reduce Carbon Footprint in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, 23 January 2020: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan and KSB Company producing pumps and valves signed memorandum of understanding to pilot and scale up innovations and technologies to improve resilience to climate change, promote energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensure water efficiency and sustainable land use.

“UNDP pays much attention to enhancing cooperation with the private sector, recognizing that achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development would require greater engagement of business.,” noted Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative a.i.

KSB demonstrated its commitment to UN values by becoming a member of the UN Global Compact in 2010 and thereby linking its business practice to the Millennium Development Goals and then to Sustainable Development Goals.

MOU between UNDP and KSB envisages cooperation in following areas:

·         Piloting small size solar system and solar pump for drip irrigation of 350 fruit trees at Geokdepe project pilot site. This pilot will demonstrate CO2 neutral irrigation system that have good potential for replication in remote areas.

·         Installation of water meter devices using sensor technology and software to collect and transmit data to be installed at all three pump stations of Geokdepe site.

·         Conducting trainings for water/irrigation specialists on engineering, maintenance and operation of energy efficient pumping equipment and water metering devices.

·         Providing technical consultations and recommendations on operation and maintenance of pumping systems purchased and installed within the project activities.
