UNDP / GEF project shares experience with students

Gokdepe, 2 July 2020: In the framework of the joint UNDP / GEF project and the State Committee for Water Resources of Turkmenistan “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Sustainable Water Management in Turkmenistan”, demonstration irrigation areas with modern water-saving irrigation systems for agricultural crops were equipped on the “Turkmensuvlymtaslama” design institute research plot of ​​145 hectares such as drip irrigation, artificial sprinkling and advanced furrow irrigation using portable irrigation hoses. At these irrigation systems, postgraduate students, young scientists and specialists of the Turkmen State  Agricultural University and “Turkmensuvlymtaslama” Institute conduct research on the effectiveness of cultivating cotton, winter wheat, vegetable and fodder crops with various water-saving irrigation methods.

On July 2, 2020, practical classes were held for students of the Turkmen State Agricultural University. Students with great interest got acquainted with the entire infrastructure of the research site, including the pond-settler, pumping stations for sprinkling and drip irrigation systems, water-metering devices for metering irrigation water consumption and lateral and pivot sprinklers.

On the fields of the research site, students were acquainted with field experiments on the features of crop cultivation using various water-saving irrigation systems. In conclusion, the university teachers and students thanked the Project staff for their hospitality and strengthening of theoretical knowledge acquainted in University with hands-on experience and real examples of the use of water-saving irrigation technologies.

During this event, the UNDP / GEF Project took all precautions against acute respiratory diseases, including social distance and hand disinfection.
