Ashgabat, 28 November 2018: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) together with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan in the framework of the joint project on “Strengthening Capacity in Labour and Employment Policy Planning and Implementation” conducted a Round-table on the Issues of Labour, Employment and Labour Relations at “Yyldyz” hotel in Ashgabat. 

The event brought together over 50 specialists from different ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the State Committee on Statistics, The Main State Service "Turkmenstandartlary", as well as a delegation from the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Belarus, international expert from Sweden, representatives of the Regional UNDP office in Istanbul and UNDP Turkmenistan staff.

The Round table provided a platform for an exchange of knowledge and experience as well as best practices on labour, labour safety as well as labour and inclusive employment.  The discussions focused on international best practices in employment, regulations of labour relations, perspectives for improving legal relations in the area, basics of state policy on labour safety.

In 2016, UNDP and the Government of Turkmenistan implement a joint project to improve national legislation in the sphere of labor and employment. This project consists of three components: i) improving the legislative basis in the area of labour and employment; ii) modernizing the current labour safety system; and iii) strengthening the national capacity to regulate labour market and employment.
