Jan 25, 2018

Ashgabat, 22 January 2018: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Turkmenistan sign a new project aimed at promoting the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the upgrade of the statistics institutional capacities. The project is funded by the Government of Turkmenistan to fulfil its commitment to SDGs.

The implementation of the 2030 Agenda requires an informed decision making by policy makers, legislators and public in general, which is only possible through access to a quality disaggregated data aligned with international standards.

“As a result of the partnership between UNDP, the Government of Turkmenistan and other UN agencies, we expect to have a solid and comprehensive system for monitoring of the SDGs implementation. State Statistics Committee plays a crucial role in the monitoring system as it does not only produce all kinds of data, but also should strive for accuracy, reliability and objectivity using the best methods, as enshrined in the Fundamental Principles,” noted Nurjemal Jalilova, UNDP Programme Analyst.

UNDP supports the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan in equipping the Statistics Committee with state-of-art computer equipment and multimedia technologies as well as development of innovative methods of statistical data presentation.

This project is based on recommendations provided during the self-assessment of the institutional structure and functioning which was carried out by the State Statistics Committee of Turkmenistan in 2014 with a view to identify the opportunities for growth of the Statistics Committee.
