28 Dec 2018 by Yulduz Mamedova
According to the Global Environment Facility, the world population living in the cities and towns has grown more than fivefold since 1950 and exceeded the number of those living in the countryside. Cities are already struggling environmental degradation, air pollution, inadequate urban infrastructure, and waste management. How to maintain economic growth, while designing and building livable cities for future generation, is the biggest urban challenge the world is facing today.
On the World Cities Day 31 October 2018, UNDP in Turkmenistan organized an interactive dialogue for national partners and UN staff, which aimed at promoting the community’s interest in urbanization, enhancing cooperation among government and private sector in meeting opportunities and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development. The participants from private and public sector shared their own experiences and called upon to stand for sustainable and inclusive society.
Award ceremony concluded the event, congratulating the winners and all participants of the video competition on "SDGs and Environment" and "SDGs and Inclusive Society".
