Ashgabat, April 4, 2019: The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan held the final workshop on preparation of the training manual "Climate Box". This seminar was held within the framework of the UNDP regional project “Education and Awareness on Climate Change Issues - Climate Box”, supported by the Russia-UNDP Fund.

More than 30 teachers, methodologists and representatives of the educational sphere of Turkmenistan participated in the seminar. National experts are actively working to adapt the national version of the Climate Box. Upon completion of the adaptation of the national version, the textbook will be sent for consideration and approval to the Government of Turkmenistan.

“Fighting climate change requires a complex and integrated approach, and it is necessary to start at school level in order to instill love to best practices and knowledge of this issue. We are ready to support the introduction and further improvement of this educational material,” stated the representative of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

The workshop participants familiarized themselves with the content and best practices of using the “Climatic Box” in class and during extracurricular hours, and also conducted practical work on using the “Climatic Box” study guide in various subjects of the school curriculum and during extra-curricular activities.

The problem of climate change is relevant to Turkmenistan due to its geographical position. Turkmenistan actively introduces technologies and innovations to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in various sectors of the economy.
