UNDP and partners promote employment of people with disability in private sector of Turkmenistan

There are more than 10 000 people living with disabilities in Turkmenistan, while 76% are employed, it is mostly in low-paying job / UNDP Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, August 15-17, 2018: Promoting the concept of an inclusive society, aimed at developing social infrastructure and improving the quality of life of various categories of the population, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the support of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population and the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan conduct a three-day training of the professional development of people with disability.

The three-day programme includes a number of workshops on writing a resume, enhancing the professional interviewing skills at the international level, which in turn are directed to reveal the potential of people with disability and improving the practice of their effective employment. Moreover, during the training, such topics as the art of communication and interaction with employers are also discussed.

This initiative is being realized within the framework of the National Action Plan for the creation of conditions and opportunities for the implementation of the rights in the employment of people with disabilities for 2017-2020. The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population involves the private sector in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Turkmenistan. As of 2015, there were 9,809 persons with disabilities who are employable, as reported by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Turkmenistan. Out of them 76 per cent are currently employed, but mostly in low-paying job.  

According to the results of the training, the most successful and active participants will have the opportunity to participate in the Career Fair for People with Disabilities, scheduled on 30 August at the UN building in Turkmenistan. The total number of applicants for participation was more than 90 people.
