Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan and Regional Partners Discuss Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Tripartite PartnershipsMar 6, 2018
Ashgabat, 2 March 2018: The Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan, Ms. Yazdursun Gurbannazarova participated in the Annual Conference of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) in Geneva on 22-23 February 2018. The conference gathered National Human Rights Institutions (NIHRIs) from all over the world to exchange good practices and lessons on NHRI’s role in promoting and protecting human rights. The Annual Conference was co-organized by the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and was focused on the role of NIHRIs in monitoring the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their participation.
Ms. Gurbannazarova also attended the side-event organized by UNDP and OHCHR, aimed at showcasing the implementation of the Strategic Tripartite Partnership (TPP) of Global Alliance of NHRIs (GANHRI), Asia Pacific Forum of NHRIs (APF), UNDP and OHCHR – through the Central Asia Support Initiative for NHRIs. The Central Asia Support Initiative for NHRIs (CASI-NHRI) - launched by UNDP, OHCHR and GANHRI - is a crucial part of the ongoing efforts in support of National Human Rights Institutions in the region.
In 2017, UNDP in Turkmenistan launched a joint project with the Office of Ombudsperson of Turkmenistan. The project is aimed at strengthening independent and effective functions of the Ombudsperson’s Office of Turkmenistan in accordance with the Paris Principles.
