UN, Development partners and Government share findings of the first phase of MAPS mission to TurkmenistanJul 7, 2017
Ashgabat, 7 July 2017: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has hosted a round table on the results of the first phase of the UN MAPS mission with participation of the members of the National Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) comprised of deputy heads of 47 national entities, UN Country Team and the representatives of the EU community in the country, represented by Head of the EU Liaison Office, Ambassadors of Germany and France to Turkmenistan.
The high-level round table focused on the discussion of findings prepared by the UN mission, including UNDP and UNICEF representatives from Istanbul, Astana and Geneva country and regional offices, during the meetings with key national ministries.
As part of its mission, UN representatives consulted with national partners on the four main issues of SDG implementation: introduction of SDGs into national, sectoral and regional development programs; the identification of priority sectors or so-called “accelerators”; financing the SDGs and monitoring of SDGs’ implementation and the main principle of the Global Agenda 2030 of “leaving no one behind”.
Also, the participants learned about the elements of the national voluntary reporting to the High Level Political Forum at ECOSOC and the requirements to the national reporting on SDGs.
At the same time, the national stakeholders’ attention was drawn to the country experiences in the 2030 Agenda implementation in the European Union, particularly in Germany and France.
The round table discussion was useful to identify preliminary priority areas of UN support to the Government in realization of SDGs. Further discussions with the Government will take place to carry out the Rapid Integrated Assessment and prepare the Terms of Reference for the UN’s MAPS mission scheduled for November 2017.Contact Person
