UNDP exhibits achievements to celebrate the 25th anniversary of partnership with the Government of Turkmenistan

Ashgabat, 2 March 2017: The Turkmen Government and the United Nations of Turkmenistan have started a week of celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s membership in the United Nations.

The activities to mark the 25 years of Turkmenistan-UN cooperation commenced on 27 February and will continue through 4 March, 2017. They include interviews of the heads of UN Agencies to the national TV; lectures at various universities in the country; joint conference; UN agencies’ presentations at the new UN House for students, NGOs and mass media; and a sports event with the participation of UN staff and youth.   

The culmination of the events will be the International Conference and photo exhibition titled “Turkmenistan and the United Nations: a strategic partnership for peace, security and sustainable development” at the Institute of International Relations of MFA. As expected, Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, will read out the message of the President of Turkmenistan addressed to the participants of the conference comprising UN representatives at the regional and country level, as well as high-level officials of the Turkmen Government.

The Conference will also highlight the statements from the UN Resident Coordinator Ms. Elena Panova, heads of UN Agencies operating in the country and a number of UN regional representatives. The Conference will provide insight to many achievements of the UN-Turkmenistan cooperation in the areas ranging from peace and security, governance and human rights, to environment protection, climate change, inclusive social services, and sustainable development. It will also stress the importance of the strategic cooperation in the interests of the people of Turkmenistan.
