UN in Turkmenistan open doors to partners to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its membership

Ashgabat, 3 March 2017: The Turkmen Government and the United Nations of Turkmenistan have started a week of celebrations of the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s membership in the United Nations.

The activities to mark the 25 years of Turkmenistan-UN cooperation have commenced on 27 February and continue through 4 March, 2017. They include interviews of the heads of UN Agencies to the national TV; lectures at various universities in the country; joint conference; UN House open day with agencies’ presentations for students, NGOs and mass media; and a sports event with the participation of UN staff and youth.   

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s membership to the United Nations, the UN in Turkmenistan organized on 3nd March 2017 an Open House event, opening its doors to partners. Around 100 of guests, mostly students, had the opportunity to visit the UN building and learn more about the work of each agency.

Mr. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan stressed the importance of strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and United Nations for peace, security and sustainable development during his speech.

“We want to make a tradition to have the Open House Day when we can offer young people the opportunity to learn more about our projects and how they can contribute to the development of Turkmenistan”, said UN Resident Coordinator Ms.Elena Panova.

The participants had a chance to see the photo exhibition of historic pictures since 1994. The Heads of Agencies operating in the country, the Regional Representatives prepared the presentations where they demonstrated the overall work, the results and goals of the agencies they represent.
