UNDP and Turkmenistan Sign the Country Programme Action Plan 2016- 2020

At the ceremony in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Turkmenistan have signed the Country Programme Action Plan, 2016- 2020  (CPAP) and the  arrangements  for cost – sharing over the five year period. The Government and the UNDP worked together over the past several months to develop the CPAP and the arrangements for cost – sharing.

The new CPAP focuses on four main areas of development: 1. Climate change 2. Energy efficiency 3. Rule of law 4.  Social- economic/quality data.

“We are pleased that the programme focuses on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Turkmenistan. We will continue looking for more opportunities of cost-sharing with UNDP,” stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Mr. Rashid Meredov.

“We hope that UNDP’s support will help to implement SDGs, the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and the creation of the regional center on climate on change technologies in Ashgabat. The programme will also support the government to implement the National Human Rights Action Plan and strengthen the socio- economic development of the country, including development data,” said UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Jacinta Barrins.
