Members of Mejlis of Turkmenistan pay study visit to Czech RepublicMar 1, 2016
Ashgabat, 1 March 2016: Members of the Mejlis (Parliament) of Turkmenistan completed a study visit to the Czech Republic on capacity building for law-making within UNDP’s project of support “Support for the Parliament to increase the capacity of representative bodies in Turkmenistan”. The visit took place on February 21-27, 2016.
During the visit, members of Mejlis were introduced to the basics of the political system of the Czech Republic, decentralization reform, basic principles of political party operations, and electoral system. They have also discussed the main functions of the Czech Parliament and its role in the constitutional order of the republic.
At the meetings with members of the Czech Parliament particular attention was paid to the legislative process and the roles of various actors in it, such as the government, the public, and the president. Parties also discussed preparation of the draft laws, legislative process at the governmental level, and the use of electronic means for transparency.
On the ad-hoc basis, members of Mejlis met Mr. Jan Hamáček, The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Parliament of Czech Republic. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the upcoming visit of the delegation of the Parliament of Czech Republic to Turkmenistan in March 2016.
“Parliament of Turkmenistan actively cooperates with foreign counterparts and adopts the best international practices in the field of law making. As a result of this study visit, Turkmen MPs have an opportunity to conduct comparative analysis between the Turkmen and Czech law making processes,” said one of the participants of the trip.Contact information
