UN and the Government of Turkmenistan hold the First Consultation Meeting on Adaptation of SDGs

Ashgabat, 22 December 2015: ​The United Nations agencies jointly with the Government of Turkmenistan and non-state technical experts met to launch the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the context and the importance of nationalization of SDGs in Turkmenistan. The meeting was attended by the heads and staff of the UN agencies and representatives of the relevant ministries, other national departments and non-state actors of Turkmenistan.

The UN representatives delivered presentations on the process of defining the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the content of the Final Outcome Document “Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”, the stages that will be applied to roll out SDGs in the country.

After that, participants worked in small groups to contextualize the meaning of each of the six principles of the 2030 Agenda (national ownership, leave no one behind, inclusive and participatory approach, integrated approach, human rights approach, universality) and discuss their application in the process of tailoring SDGs to the national context.
