UNDP and the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute discuss cooperationDec 8, 2015
Ashgabat, 1 December 2015: United Nations Development Program (UNDP) discussed joint academic cooperation activities in the field of energy efficiency with the Rector of the Turkmen State Architecture and Construction Institute discuss cooperation.
Representatives of UNDP senior management and GEF-funded project of support “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan” discussed the issues of the climate change and reduction of energy consumption in Turkmenistan, and how academia can help manage these processes. Parties shared their opinions on how to make economic growth sustainable and friendly under the conditions of the energy conservation.
Special attention was paid to the work that UNDP project does in the field of improving of the energy efficiency by piloting construction and reconstruction of energy-efficient residential buildings, revision of building codes towards more strict requirements for thermal protection of building envelopes, as well as revision of teaching curriculums for students of Architecture and construction faculty by including new modules on energy conservations. UNDP has visited the laboratory on energy conservation equipped jointly by the project and Samsung that was presented to the institute to hold practical and lab works and teach the new subject of energy management. The project supported the laboratory with the equipment for energy audits of buildings, Samsung provided Smart-class IT equipment.
Participants of the meeting discussed the importance introducing of the academic subject on energy efficiency and management. Special attention was paid to the link between the revised curriculum and what is happening in the energy conservation sphere of Turkmenistan. UNDP invited faculty and students of the institute to visit UNDP project sites and link up the teaching research and industry.
