Another seminar on the fundamentals of energy audit of residential buildings has taken place, this time in the city of Turkmenbashi over 12-15 May 2015. This concluded the series of training sessions on energy audit in all regions of the country. The events, organized by the UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan” jointly with the State Corporation “Turkmengaz” and the Ministry of Communal Services of Turkmenistan, gathered representatives of residential utility agencies, gas supply and energy oversight enterprises of the Balkan velayat, and others with an interest in energy conservation.

A practical training seminar, “Energy Audit of Residential Buildings”, which already had taken place in Dashoguz, Mary, and Turkmenabad, was held in Turkmenistan’s capital Ashgabat. The organizers of the event were the UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan”, the state concern “Turkmengaz,” and the Ministry of Communal Services of Turkmenistan.

UNDP facilitates cooperation between experts from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan on sustainable land and water management in the context of climate change
A delegation of 12 experts from the Republic of Kazakhstan were in Turkmenistan to exchange experience with Turkmen colleagues in the framework of a climate change adaptation action run by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The visit included a seminar to discuss recommendations for amendments to the Law "On pastures" and the Code "On Land" (2004) attended by representatives of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Water Resources of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan, UNDP, local communities and other stakeholders.

More than 150 of officials and civil servants from Turkmenistan attended the presentation made by the Azerbaijan State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations (ASAN) about its innovative model of public service delivery. This event culminated the week-long visit of the representatives of ASAN to Turkmenistan, organized and co-sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Civil Service Academy (CSA) under the President of Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan Government.

The UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan” is continuing a cycle of training seminars devoted to practical instruction, entitled “Energy Audit of Residential Buildings.” During 17-20 March, in the city of Turkmenabad, the latest training seminar was held, organized by the project with support from its partners, the State Corporation “Turkmengas” and the Ministry of Communal Services of Turkmenistan. Specialists in energy and residential utility services of the Lebap velayat took part in the work of the seminar.

In Ashgabat on 26-27 February, a training seminar, organized by the UNDP project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan”, was held on the updating of the building code of Turkmenistan entitled Building Climatology. Specialists of the National Committee of Hydrometeorology under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan and the scientific-industrial association Turkmendovlettaslama, which have been involved in the development of this code, were invited to participate in the seminar.

The UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan,” with the support of the state concern “Turkmengaz” and the Ministry of Communal Services of Turkmenistan, held a practical training seminar on energy audit of residential buildings in the city of Mary during 27-30 January 2015. Representatives of energy supply companies, energy oversight organizations, and specialists in the residential utility service agency of the Mary velayat and the cities of Mary and Bayramali were all invited to the event.

Paths to increase energy conservation in buildings – design and construction of energy-efficient residential buildings
The potential for regulatory provisions for design of energy-efficient residential buildings, energy audits, and training of national specialists in energy-efficient design and construction were the themes for discussion by participants at a seminar-meeting and round-tables organized by the UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan” in December 2014 in Ashgabat.

Over five days, Turkmen specialists representing electric oversight agencies, gas supply agencies, and enterprises of the residential utility service sector of the Dashoguz velayat became acquainted with advanced experience with conducting energy audits (energy monitoring and assessment) of buildings in a training seminar “Energy Audits in Residential Buildings.” The event was organized by the UNDP/GEF project “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan” with the support of the State Corporation “Turkmengas” and the Ministry of Communal Services of Turkmenistan from 22 to 26 December 2014 at the home base of the Dashoguz Residential Utility Service Association in Dashoguz.

Innovative methodology of calculating tariffs for irrigation water supply services to local farmers introduced to save water use
A discussion workshop on the innovative methodology for calculating the tariff for water supply services to Turkmen farmers was held within the framework of the ongoing project on “Addressing climate change risks to farming system in Turkmenistan, at the national and local levels”, implemented by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Adaptation Fund (AF). The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Water Economy, Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Agriculture and specialists from other relevant ministries and government agencies.

Local communities mobilized to achieve greater water use efficiency and increase resilience against climate change impacts
Two-day trainings on effective water management at community to increase resilience against climate change impacts were conducted during April-June, 2014 in three regions - Sakarchaga, Karakum and Nohur. The trainings were organized within the framework of project on “Addressing climate change risks to farming systems in Turkmenistan at national and community levels” (AF project) jointly implemented by Adaptation Fund/ United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)/Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan.

A one-day consultative meeting on meteo-forecasting and monitoring of grain crop productivity in the context of climate change was held within the framework of the UNDP project of Climate risk management in Turkmenistan. The main purpose of the meeting was to strengthen national hydrometeorological service through regional cooperation for improving its capacity and information delivery system.
