UNDP Holds Capacity Building Exercise to Produce First Documentaries About Activities in TurkmenistanJul 22, 2016
Enhancing cooperation with local partners and supporting capacity building
Ashgabat, 22 April 2016: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has partnered with the State Committee for Television, Radio and Cinematography of Turkmenistan to launch production of the first documentary films about UNDP activities.
The capacity building exercise took place at the premises of the “Turkmenfilm” state company with invited expert Safarbek Soliev, UNDP Tajikistan External Relations Advisor.
During the exercise, participants from the national TV and “Turkmenfilm” discussed the purpose of the documentary, compositions, script writing, and other details of production. They were also demonstrated the films produced by Mr. Soliev during his lasting career as a film director, and discussed the proposed concept and scenarios of the films to be produced for UNDP.
The TV programmes will cover three projects of the Environment and Energy Programme:
1. “Addressing Climate Change Risks to Farming Systems in Turkmenistan at State and Community Level” (Adaptation Fund) focusing on water harvesting in the three agro climatic regions of Turkmenistan.
2. “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Sustainable Water Management in Turkmenistan” (Global Environment Fund) encouraging research and innovation in water management.
3. “Improving Energy Efficiency in the Residential Building Sector of Turkmenistan” (Global Environment Fund) promoting the launch of the change in the energy use practices by the residents of Turkmenistan.
As a result of the training, participants were familiarized with the activities and results of operations of UNDP in Turkmenistan, and formed a vision of the upcoming work as well as the product of the cooperation between the national TV and UNDP.
The filmmaking process will start in August 2016, while documentaries are expected to be released in Fall/Winter 2016.Contact information
