Turkmenistan introduced innovative technologies for sustainable water management in the farming system

Innovative methodology of calculating tariffs for irrigation water supply services to local farmers introduced to save water use
A discussion workshop on the innovative methodology for calculating the tariff for water supply services to Turkmen farmers was held within the framework of the ongoing project on “Addressing climate change risks to farming system in Turkmenistan, at the national and local levels”, implemented by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Adaptation Fund (AF). The workshop was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Water Economy, Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan, Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan, and the Ministry of Agriculture and specialists from other relevant ministries and government agencies.

Local communities mobilized to achieve greater water use efficiency and increase resilience against climate change impacts
Two-day trainings on effective water management at community to increase resilience against climate change impacts were conducted during April-June, 2014 in three regions - Sakarchaga, Karakum and Nohur. A one-day consultative meeting on meteo-forecasting and monitoring of grain crop productivity in the context of climate change was held within the framework of the UNDP project of Climate risk management in Turkmenistan. The main purpose of the meeting was to strengthen national hydrometeorological service through regional cooperation for improving its capacity and information delivery system.

The Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP) is essential element of fulfilling obligations under the UN Convention on Biodiversity, which was endorsed by Turkmenistan in 1996.

A three-day training on “Partnership of water users at the local level” was conducted in three pilot regions within the framework of the project on “Addressing climate change risks to farming system in Turkmenistan, at the national and local levels”, implemented by the Ministry of Nature Protection of Turkmenistan jointly with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Adaptation Fund. The trainings attracted the heads and officials from the local self-government bodies, local land and water users, the employees of the local water resources management bodies and members from the Council of Elders and youth organizations.
